Marjorie Razorblade Marj O'Ram Marjolie

I dunno about you, but I like playing with my name. It's something else to play around with, it's mine, just as yours is yours, and for that reason of ownership I think you can pretty much do as you please with it.
I have had, through my almost 40 years had a variety of names for one reason or another. The one I was born with was fleeting (my parents couldn't agree on it) so, they swapped it round, and depending on who I was with at the time, mum dad, granparents, brothers, they all called me something different.
Cue the multiple persona, cause and effect of hippy lineage- but so what it was fun, and once I chose a new name of my own, it got better and better.

'Marjorie Razorblade' came about from love of a musician called Kevin Coyne who I admired and respected for a long time while growing up, he was bloody fabulous- I wrote to him and told him how much I loved his music, we formed a dialogue, I told him about my poetry, shared some with him and he loved it. Eventually I asked him if I could 'borrow' the name Marjorie Razorblade, he said "yes, on one condition....don't compromise."
I took the name and ran with it, and, as I don't compromise for anything, he was chuffed to bits.
I had 2 books published under this name, I loved being Marjorie Razorblade- it lasted for a couple of years, until like many things in life, I simply grew out of it.
Marjorie Razorblade helped me in many ways, I became a ballsy poet who did a bit of stand up inbetween. Marj was fucking great, but her time had come to an end.

She's still knocking around on the internet somewhere, and I think she's still a dot com.
Bravo Marjorie Razorblade, and thank you.

The switch over to 'Marj O'Ram' was a big but an easy one. This name summed up where I now was in life, mad about herbal remedies, herbal foraging, reinstatement of a medieval herbal garden at a wonderful place called Hospitalfield (along of course with taking my kit off as a life model), eating herbs, smoking herbs, and just generally trying to get back to nature.
(Should point out here that the hippyness of my parents bought about my natural instinct to be 'one with the nature' again. Marj O'Ram is one of my favourite herbs so why not pick that one? Literally and metaphorically.)

Initials of 'MR' retained, I was now able to continue my artworks with the 'MR' signature
(I paint a lot, sold a few, exhibit every now and then)
Anyway, Marjoram is pretty, Marjorie a bit hard, 'Marjolie' is a little bit softer and somewhere in between the two.

So for now, if the cap fits, wear it.
Marjolie
the Mischievous Strumpet

Isn't it fun to play with names and words?
